Each region of France has its own regional cuisine and specialities and the Provence and Cote d’Azur is no exception. Menus are overflowing with exquisite dishes that will be sure to tantalise your taste buds. With a variety of tastes, these dishes are guaranteed to please.
Seafood lovers will be in their element with an array of superb restaurants serving freshly caught fish. Alternatively the delicious meat dishes, cooked Provençal style with garlic, peppers, aubergines and courgettes are superb. Game, particularly wild boar cooked with lashings of olive oil and herbs is typical of the Mediterranean. For the more adventurous wishing to sample the true cuisine of the area, experience the superb garlic soup or snails in wine.
In the Provence most meals are kicked off with a Pastis, a strong aniseed drink or a refreshing Kir – white wine served with a dash of blackcurrant. As a little starter try the olive tapenade, followed by a main course of the Languedoc’s famous cassoulet, not forgetting to finish the meal with a taste of Roquefort cheese!
Exquisite food is not the only delight the Provence have to offer. The excellent Cotes du Rhone, an exceptional value red wine is produced here as well as Clairette de Die, a sparkling white wine, known as the champagne of the Drome Provencal.
