Picturesque town with traditional French atmosphere
For a long weekend or a short break, Troyes is a lovely place to visit at any time of the year. From mid June to August this is when the climate is at its best, and is also when the city has a series of musical concerts and performances as part of the annual Ville en Musique. During December, Troyes’ Christmas market offers a festive atmosphere and the opportunity for picking up some lovely gift ideas.
If you’re planning to visit the Champagne area, for tours and tasting, then it’s worth noting that whilst a few of the champagne houses are open for daily visits during the summer period, others are available for tours and tastings on weekdays only. During the winter months the majority of the houses open to visitors on weekdays only.
The grape harvest or 'vendange' generally takes place around the end of September and early October, and whilst the spectacular autumn colours of the vineyards in late October are quite lovely, it is worth noting that some houses do not offer visits during the busy harvest period, whilst others may allow you to witness the process, so do check in advance.
