There are two major areas that are best for restaurants in Caen, one is the quartier Vaugueux which hosts a selection of eateries of varying ethnicities, and the other area is the rue des Croisiers and rue Gémare off rue de Geôle. These restaurants serve mainly French cuisine.

L’Insolité on the rue du Vaugueux, serves a sumptuous menu of fresh fish.

La Petite Auberge on the rue des Equipes-d’Urgence. This is a sweet restaurant selling good value, traditional Norman cooking.

Le Carlotta on the quai Vendeuvre is a very stylish and trendy affair serving fantastic food beside the port.

Bayeux:

Les Arcades on the rue Latière, Bayeux, offers sumptuous meat and fish dishes, which are also reasonably priced.

Le Petit Normand on the rue Larcher, Bayeux, is set in a 16th century house and offers mouthwatering traditional cooking, seafood and plenty of local cider.

La Table du Terroir on rue St Jean, Bayeux, is for the meat lovers. Set behind the butchers shop, this serves a whole selection of sumptuous steaks and specialities.

La Baromètre is a beautiful restaurant within the Chateau de Goville, situated in Le-Breuil-en-Bessin, 11km west of Bayeux. Although more expensive than most, this restaurant would undoubtedly delight all who try it.
