Omaha Beach Guide

Overview

Used by the American troops during the D-Day landings of 1944, Omaha beach is located 6km west of the town of Arromanches. A museum dedicated to the D-day landings can be found in the adjacent village and you can visit the American war cemeteries where many soldiers now rest. However, present-day Omaha has much more to offer than painful memories of the past. Today Omaha Beach and its crystal clear waters attract sunbathers and swimmers, both young and old and the adjacent landscape is dotted with holiday cottages. Its surrounding areas and nearby towns offer excitement, culture, great restaurants, alongside fantastic walks and outdoor activities.

By the end of D-Day 1944, about 155,000 Allied troops were ashore the Normandy beaches.
  • Normandy’s beaches have been described as nothing short of a bather’s paradise.
  • Set in the beautiful area of the Bessin, there are lovely walks and great views.
  • Situated in Normandy, on the Côte de Nacre, famous for the D-Day landings, Omaha beach is perfectly situated to visit the other wartime landings sites of the area.
  • It is in close proximity to other towns such as Bayeux, which boasts excellent weekly markets of fresh meats, cheese and fish alongside lovely restaurants of French Norman style cooking.
  • The pretty fishing village of Arromanches, famous for it artificial Mulberry harbour, is also nearby.
